Swim Programs


The Orcas competitive swim programs are based upon the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) strategy created by Swimming/Natation Canada.  All Orca staff are trained and certified with the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)

Pre-Competitive Program

The pre-competitive program is designed to introduce swimmer to the swim club environment and the sport of speed swimming.  Swimmers will attend practices 2-3 times per week for a total of 45 minutes per session.  By the end of the pre-competitive program swimmers will have knowlege of freestyle, backstroke, breath control, streamline, entries, and turns.  The goal is to allow swimmers to experience competition and then transition  into the competitive program.

​​​​​​​Competitive Program

The competitive program builds on the foundations of speed swimming and the excitement of competition.  Swimmers attend practice 3-5 times per week for a total of 60-90 minutes per session and will build endurance and fine tune their swim skills. This program is designed for swimmers who are more serious about swimming or who have identified swimming as their main sport.  These groups will attend competitions locally, provincially, and/or nationally.
