Orca Swim School Level 1

Welcome to Orca Swim School with the Ladysmith Chemainus Orcas!

This beginner program is designed to introduce young swimmers to the speed swimming program. Swimmers will be learning the basic skills of speed swimming including entries, turns, and the first two primary swim strokes (Backstroke and Freestyle). The program is between session-based to allow for flexibility and swimmers can participate in the fall (September-December), the winter (January-March), or the Spring program (March-June). On the first day of practice please arrive at Frank Jameson Community Center approximately 10 mins before your session, change into your bathing suit, and bring your goggles out on to the pool deck to meet your coaches. Swimmers must be comfortable in the water on their own.

High School Swimming

Registration Requirements

Pre-Competitive/Recreational : High School Swimming

High School swimming is a fitness and social-based program designed to provide a place for high school students to participate in swimming with lower commitment. The program will focus on the fundamentals of swimming and the four speed swimming strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle). Ideal for international students, students who participate in other sports and are looking to build their strength and endurance, and any high school student hoping to participate in high school swimming in the Fall school semester (Ladysmith Secondary and Chemainus Secondary). LCSC currently collaborates with Ladysmith Secondary school to provide interested students with an opportunity to attend Vancouver Island High School Swim Championship and BC High School Swim Provincials, if swimmer qualify. Please email ladysmithchemainusswimclub@gmail.com if you attend a different high school and wish to participate in the Vancouver Island High School Swim Championship.

Note: Participants in this program should be able to swim a minimum of 50m (2 lengths of the pool)

Orca Swim School Level 2

Welcome to Orca Swim School with the Ladysmith Chemainus Orcas!

This beginner program is designed to introduce the speed swimming program to swimmers 7-12 years of age. Swimmers will be learning the basic skills of speed swimming including entries, turns, and all four swim strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle). The program is session-based to allow for flexibility and swimmers can participate in the fall (September-December), the winter (January-March), or the Spring program (March-June). On the first day of practice please arrive at Frank Jameson Community Center approximately 10 mins before your session, change into your bathing suit, and bring your goggles out on to the pool deck to meet your coaches. Swimmers will have the opportunity to try racing, if they choose, and can register for one or both of the Orca Splash fun-based swim competitions. B Pod

Registration Requirements

Pre-Competitive/Recreational : B Pod

B Pod
This program is the grassroots level for competitive swimming. This group is aimed at those swimmers that have completed the J Pod or children who can swim 50 meters continuously. A strong foundation will be focused on to help prepare swimmers as they experience the competitive swimming sport. Competition will be explored in participation in one local swim meet.

Sessions: 4:00pm to 4:45pm or 4:45-5:30pm Any two days a week. 2 x 45 mins

Prerequisites: 8+ years of age (or permission from the Head Coach) and the ability to swim 50m unassisted

Equipment: Proper bathing suit (no two-piece bathing suits), swim cap, and goggles.
